The photograph below was taken in my early 20s by fashion photographer and creative genius, late Crispian Plunkett.
I had some crazy dreams and aspirations back then. Still do! One of them was to be a model.
A fashion photographer friend introduced me to the world of fashion modelling.
The first agent I met told me that I was "too old" to start modelling at the age of 19.
Another agent said "you are too short to be a ramp model" (I am 5ft9.5/1.77m) and "your upper lip is too thin" - enough to put any slightly insecure individual back under her rock and never dream of pursuing modelling again!
But, thanks to Napoleon Hill's book "Think and Grow Rich", which I read at a tender age of 14, I learnt to never let the opinions of others define who I am and my capabilities.
If I had listened to the arrogant, naysayer agent, trying to limit my dreams, I would never have enjoyed the awesome experiences in the world of fashion modelling. Shortly after, I landed a modelling job for a Valentine's edition of a teen magazine, Blush. It not only featured a full fashion editorial and a close up of my hands for a nail polish commercial, but, yes…..you guessed it, it included super close up shots of my lips! There it was - a whole page filled with pics of my lips with a big fat headline - "Kissable Lips" - take that Mr Dream Stealer!
Had I listened to all the naysayers and sceptics, I would have missed out on this glorious opportunity to create art with fashion industry's greatest, and would not be loving, accepting, and honouring myself. I am no Claudia Schiffer, but I believed that I had something unique to offer. Like Cindy Crawford, I learnt to appreciate and love my 'imperfections'.
"Love who you are and let the world see it" is a quote from my book, The Secrets of The Wealthy Fox. When you truly love who you are, magic happens!
What does it mean to truly love who you are?
No, it isn't about vanity, selfishness or pride. It's about self-acceptance, self-appreciation and self-love. It's about...
Love is at the core of our being. Never suppress it. Learn to embrace love and express it through your daily thoughts, words and actions.
Never be afraid to pursue your wildest, craziest dreams. Surround yourself with people who support, uplift and motivate you to achieve them. And when you are ready to do some bigger transformational work - in love, career, money, business or health - feel free to reach out. I am here for you.
